Will Williams

What do you do?

 

Hey, I’m Will and I’m the founding teacher at Will Williams Meditation. I’m here to help each individual achieve balance, overcome any pain and trauma and ultimately enable them to achieve growth and success in all areas of life.

Vedic meditation helps relieve issues such as stress, anxiety and depression while improving creativity and productivity, as well as having a host of other benefits.

We teach a particularly profound form of meditation which is easy to do and fast-acting – so essential in our busy, fast-paced, world. It is so important to us that we pass on what we’ve learned in the most inspiring and empowering way possible, and we go to great lengths to ensure every individual gets all the support they need to really thrive.

When not teaching, I am busy working with educators, healthcare providers and charities, promoting meditation as a holistic response to many of our individual and societal challenges, and encouraging greater research into its effects on all aspects of our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

 

Where did your journey start?

I found meditation 9 years ago after experiencing protracted stress-related insomnia. I randomly met a friend of a friend whose life had been transformed by Vedic meditation. Whilst sceptical, I felt compelled to give it a try and see if it was as good as it was cracked up to be. It had such a positive impact on every aspect of my life that I now dedicate my life to sharing this transformative knowledge with others.

When I started thinking about teaching meditation, I sensed that in order to deliver this knowledge in the most powerful ways, I needed to go to the source. A two and a half year global and spiritual odyssey with Jess ensued, meeting with many great masters from across the continents whilst receiving the highest standard of training from the pre-eminent master of Vedic meditation.

I discovered that no matter what the rituals and no matter how interesting, complex or hard core the rites of passage, the greatest and most powerful techniques were the simplest and easiest, available to everyone no matter what their circumstance. It just required the right teaching.

I spent 4 months completing the legendarily intensive Vedic meditation teacher training course. Upon graduation, I met up with Jess once more and we returned to Europe to begin sharing the remarkable fruits of our journey.

There’s a famous story in my family from when I was 2 years old, and my mum was desperately ill and barely able to move off of the couch. I was at home alone with her – my brother and sister at school – and I kept going up to my mum to see what was happening, but to little avail – she just had nothing to give.

After passing out for an hour or so, my mum awoke and instinctively called out for me. But there was no response. She called again and nothing. She got up from the couch and began to search from room to room, and as she searched our little home a rising sense of alarm came upon her. She ran out onto the street and started asking the neighbours and the kids in the street if they’d seen me, and two of the young boys said they’d seen me walking towards town.

Although overcome with illness, the protective instinct kicked in and she started walking towards town, desperately trying to track me down.

After about two miles, and with town beckoning, she found me, completely naked from the waste down, just my favourite little striped T-Shirt on and a huge shopping bag over my shoulder.

When she found me she was incredibly relieved but also angry with me that I’d ventured so far – when she asked what I was doing, my response was that I was on my way to the doctors to get her some medicine, and the bag was how I was going to carry it all home.

She broke down and wept, and gave me the biggest hug, and we walked back to our little house.

Looking back on that story, it’s clear to me how much I’ve always wanted to help people. And as my awareness of the world grew, I began to want to help the world too. It was just a question of how.

Why did you become a meditation teacher?

Meditation had such a profound impact on my life that within a year or so I felt that I should teach it. At the time I was thinking of becoming a school teacher, as I felt that empowering people with knowledge and skills was the best way to make a difference. However, when I spoke to teachers about it, the apparent bureaucracy suggested it wouldn’t have been a good fit.

The more I practised, the more my consciousness expanded. I became aware of the issues negatively affecting the world, and as I advanced it seemed change was possible. I realised that for me, by far the most meaningful impact I could have on the world would be to help people overcome the stress and strain that is creating the collective ‘me first’ dynamic in the world.

I don’t think any of us question the fact that the world needs to change. It’s simply a question of how. For me and the team here at WWM, it is glaringly obvious that it all springs back to consciousness, and so we are dedicating our lives to working in this field. As one of my heroes once said:

“No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it.”

Lucia Formis

What do you do?

I’m Lucia and I take care of all the Will Williams Meditation events as well as running our group meditations. You will probably come through to me when you ring us up!

Where did your journey start?

I am half English, half Italian and have moved around a lot whilst growing up, the travelling always made me believe it is important to have an open mind. I found meditation about 10 years ago, and practiced it on and off. My practice has gotten much more profound over the last 2 years, and I have seen a difference in myself: I am calmer and more in tune with myself. If someone told me I would be working in meditation 5 years ago, I wouldn’t have imagined it!

I used to work in the corporate world of banking until not long ago, but felt like something was missing. My intuition brought me here, I was browsing through Instagram one morning, as photography is one of my passions, and Will Williams meditation popped up. I got a strong feeling to call up and ask whether they were hiring, when I rang I found that there was a job going that hadn’t been advertised anywhere! A week later, i found myself sat at an interview with Will, offered me a job there and then! I joined in November and am loving every minute, being able to combine my passion for meditation and guiding students that come through our door every day.

During my career, I felt I had always struggled to find my field, starting off in fashion and then moving into banking. I somehow felt like something was always missing or felt like I was always looking for something else, never feeling satisfied.

I used to suffer from Depression, Anxiety, panic attacks and an eating disorder. I’ve tried everything one could imagine to get better…121 therapy, CBT, medication, Pilates, Acupuncture, reading endless amounts of books….but nothing has helped me as much as meditation. Mediation is the thing that really step changed my recovery and enabled me to find my true purpose.

I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t listened to my intuition that day. I feel like I had finally found my calling, growing up as a spiritual individual I am grateful to be working in this environment. I am passionate about helping others find their true purpose through meditation, much like I did.

Catherine Turner

What do you do?

I’m Catherine and I teach Beginners Courses, host Group Meditations and Intro Talks at Will Williams Meditation. It’s a real honour to be sharing such a powerful technique with others, particularly now in our 24/7 ‘switched on’ culture. When living under such pressure, our nervous systems are often wired, and many of us are increasingly suffering from various ailments – poor sleep and digestive issues, to allergies and anxiety. Vedic Meditation is incredibly effective at balancing the nervous system – an essential step towards managing these modern day malaises. Alongside hosting courses here, I’m a health and wellness writer (I’m a Contributing Editor to Psychologies Magazine, and write for Conde Nast Traveller amongst other titles) as well as teaching yoga.

Where did your journey start?

I’m an Editor and Writer by trade and stepped onto the path of yoga and meditation about 20 years ago to keep me grounded whilst working in the fast paced world of glossy magazines. I loved my job, yet the constant travelling and deadlines took their toll on my health – I was tired, wired and after years of pushing hard, and I knew I wasn’t firing on all cylinders. Once I started practising yoga postures, and then meditation, it was a revelation. My health improved – niggling ailments such as hay fever and digestive issues fell away, and I had more focus, and felt happier in my own skin.

The changes were so profound that I decided to train as a teacher, first in India, then at Triyoga, London and began teaching alongside my writing work. Along the way, I’ve met many teachers and gurus, and have lived in a remote Himalayan ashram, meditated on a Sri Lankan rooftop with Buddhist monks, studied Reiki, completed a healing course at the College of Psychic Studies and found deep stillness in silent retreats. I discovered Vedic Meditation after trying many other techniques – and it brought such a profound shift, I knew straight away that I wanted to share the teachings, which led me to embark on deep practice and study with Will, and an intensive Vedic Meditation training course in Bali with Charlie Knoles.

Bill Lynds

What do you do?

Hello, I’m Bill. I teach beginners courses and host group meditation and introductory chats. I am here to introduce you to a simple technique designed with you in mind, and which will help you in overcoming the mental and physical obstacles to good health and personal growth.

Where did your journey start?

As a former teacher of martial arts, and more recently an occasional yogi, I have encountered meditation in a number of guises over the years. My early experiences were always interesting and of course very relaxing, but never more than an “also ran” to the sense of fulfilment and achievement in the physical practice.

Looking back, I see that like many of us I self-medicated my own experience of stress through physical exercise, and the odd glass or two – which kind of worked for as long as I was in the dojo or on the mat or, erm..in the bar. Not much changed though, outside. And my health started to slide…

About 8 years ago with the advent of easily accessible mindfulness instruction (thank you Mr Puddicombe!) I started a daily meditation practice. As my practice developed I saw that there was something else, somewhere else, something that wasn’t “mindfulness”… and so I started to look for a practice that would give me that. Whatever “that” was. And then one fine day – and this is before meditation became a regular in the weekend papers – I opened the newspaper to see a smiling Aussie (no, not a cricketer but a meditation teacher who was in town). After a brief exchange of email I was introduced to Will and the world or Vedic meditation, the root of so many meditation traditions. Funny how life pans out!

Fast forward several years – having completed years of study with Will and several months of preparation and training in India and Bali, I completed my training with Will’s dear friend and collaborator, Charlie Knoles. And now I am here to share this technique and all the profound knowledge of the Vedic civilisation and all related knowledge with you.

As for real world credentials?… When I’m not teaching, I am a lawyer and a judge…which has its ups and downs!
